On the 11th May, ten players from Wycombe Hockey Club’s Ladies 5s squad travelled to Leicester to attend the ‘England Hockey Awards Evening’. Amazingly we had been shortlisted for the ‘Investec Women’s Team of the Tear’ in recognition of our success in our first season as a new team made up of ‘Back to Hockey’ players, junior girls moving up into ladies hockey and players joining the club from a disbanded local team – we came second in our league and have achieved promotion. The evening was really great, full of awards, fantastic speeches, music, food, and of course meeting lots of GB players. We were lucky to have Liam Ansell sitting at our table, plus Ellie Rayer, Grace Balsdon, Hollie Pearne-Webb, Lily Owsley and Sam Ward came to chat as well as Ian Sloan and Mark Gleghorne, who both coach at Wycombe. We managed to get loads of signatures on our mini hockey sticks that we were given! It was so inspirational seeing who won the awards and hearing about why they won and although we weren’t winners this time, it was truly an unforgettable and enjoyable experience.
